Mrs. Janet Raychouni

The MS Counselor works with middle school students during these very challenging yet developmentally important years. As the counselor, I am here to support each student in the exciting “middle years” of grades 6-8.
I am available to students for academic, social and personal counseling. I encourage students to visit my office seek assistance with academic planning, class scheduling, and personal counseling for any matter of concern.

This is a time of amazing transitions, full of physical and emotional growth and learning. It can also be a challenging time for the students. It is a time in each student’s life in which he/she might feel happy, exuberant, on top of the world one minute and then the next minute he/she finds one questioning everything, mad at the world, or just plain sad. My office is a place where all of these emotions are welcomed; where each student is respected for exactly who he/she is at that moment; where one feels trust; and where one feels safe. If you come to speak with me, I will listen, above all. I will be honest and direct; but I will not tell you what to do. I will assume that students already hold the answers to problems they may have, and I will work with the student to uncover them. I will keep our conversation in confidence, unless you or someone else is in danger, or we agree that this is what is best.

A few reasons that students might come to my office are:

They are in an argument with a friend and don't know how to resolve it.

  • They are feeling sad.
  • They can't get themselves motivated to do their homework.
  • They are excited about something and just want to tell someone!
  • They find themselves arguing with their parents about school.
  • They need help working with their teachers.
  • They feel nervous when taking a test or exam.
  • Their family is experiencing a move, a separation or a divorce.
  • They are frustrated and are looking for someone to listen to them.

Visitors to my office, alone or in groups, are always welcome, whether for concerns or if it's just to say "hello".

I look forward to getting to know each of you, students and parents, throughout your time here at AISJ Middle School!
